Almost the same as complaining about too many Bible quotes on a religious message board. There are some posters here averaging over 20 post per day for 10 or more years and probably have many followers. Wonder how many of them give the poster calling their hobby "unhealthy" positive post ratings.

IMO, being obsessed with numbers is no more unhealthy as being obsessed with rating every post.

Yep. One of the first things that stick out in my mind was reading the rules. I still messed up. Todd sent a couple of warnings. From those I learned to take a time out on my own. Self regulate, walk away a day or two. Let the situation resolve itself. And sometimes stay gone for months.

I noticed dr san made the suggestion of having a built in translator which tells us people outside the states don't have options like Europe where pages are in different languages. I've used Google translate on Asian and Russian sites to get software or files for my laser. It works okay, but translators, on the whole are not perfect. Misspelling are another matter.

Years ago someone questioned "Milky Way Galaxy" as a location. It was quickly shot down (wasn't like we were going to visit each other offline anyway).

Being obsessed with one's ability to show displeasure/express opinion via negs is more of a unhealthy juvenile behavior while adults express their opinion vocally (posting in this case).

I thought about using the number of members logged in making that calculation, which was 16,000+.
But a large number of that 16,000 is here for one part of the board.....like predictions, the game forums, or the systems forum. They may venture into discussion if they see something of interest. For the most part, they aren't concerned with showing their displeasure with others' posts.

And I suspect as soon as the talk of negs dries up, our neggers will move on, or redouble their effort reminding us of the immense "I can neg you" power they feel by clicking that little ratings button.

On the other end of the spectrum there are those who make it game. They post knowing it will be negged so their idea is to try to top their personal best neg record. The greatest insult to them would be no negs.

I'm leaning to that idea. Pegging the needle to one extreme or the other is not a bad thing. You are getting a reaction to what you post. You have followers, fans, and you are now an influencer. People are paying attention to you!

They can't rationally express themselves and may not understand what is being posted, so they neg showing some emotional discomfort/discontent. Logical, rational posts are beyond their reasoning capabilities and messes with their defined barriers.

Now, I don't say any of that lightly since I have a niece who is a Downs person. She reads well, computer literate, thoughtful speaker, yet as the questions, problems, or situation becomes more complex, she becomes confused. Like the, "I can't tell you why I disagree," but, "I don't like what you said," we see here.
