Because most people aren't multi-millionaires, they very likely have little to no knowledge of how huge wealth/money is professionally managed. About the only thing I can think of that would be an exception to that is professionals who are employed in the financial industry that aren't multi-millionaires themselves, but they possess the knowledge and skills necessary to manage very wealthy people's money.
Many lay people don't know that a banks view of very wealthy people is quite different than their view of those of us who aren't rich. For instance banks have three different classifications of multi-millionaires. Those with one million or more are regarded by banks as high net-worth individuals. Those with at least five million are considered to be very high net-worth individuals. Those with at least thirty million are considered to be ultra high net-worth individuals.
A lot of banks offer high net-worth individuals "private bank" services. Those of us that aren't at least a high net-worth individual cant do business with a private bank because we just don't have enough money to do it. A private bank wont accept your business unless you have an amount of money above a minimum threshold.
The main thing lottery players should realize should they be so lucky as to buy a lottery ticket that makes them an instant ultra high net-worth individual is they are probably going to need the services of a professional money manager simply because they have little to no knowledge and experience with the brand new financial world they suddenly find themselves thrust into and have to deal with.
To find some one who knows how to professionally manage massive amounts of money, all anyone needs to do is Google "Family Office" or Private Wealth Managers. They come right to the top of the search list Google returns. There may not be one in your town, but it's a safe bet there are some not too far away from you.
Many lay people feel only they can manage their money/new found fortune. And it's certainly possible that some can actually do it. But chances are they cant and wont. People trying to do something they're not equipped to do is one reason why many big lottery winners have gone broke. G5
