"we used to post like crazy when the jackpots were around 300-400 million"
To <snip>ize Joe Walsh, the jackpots are different but we haven't changed. When a $300 million jackpot used to cause a long thread it was a very unusual jackpot, and it was even more unusual if a jackpot that was over $300 million rolled more than once. In 2021 PB started the year at $384 million before being won 3 weeks later at $730 million. After a few modest (in contemporary terms) jackpots, it passed $300 million again on 8/25 and wasn't hit until 10/ when it was $700 million. The next run is the run we're still in. Maybe somebody will have a very happy New Year, or (more likely) 2022 will start at almost $500 million. With one chance still left before the year is over we've been offered 33 jackpots of more than $300 million. MM also gave us 3 jackpots of more than $300 million, with 20 different chances. MM also gave us our 3rd (advertised) jackpot of more than a $1 billion. All told, those 53 chances represent almost 1/4 of the total chances in 2021.
$300 million is almost as much money as it was 8 or 10 years ago, but the chance to win it is now commonplace. When the jackpot gets to something that's still unusual I'm sure we'll see some discussion of it, though I'm not sure anyone will say anything new and it may not run 12 or 15 pages like it used to.
"The line in Delaware that went from the store to near I95."
I don't think I've ever seen a line in person, even for drawings that had NYC news crews filming long lines somewhere in the city. I think the very first time I bought a PB ticket was for the one Jack Whittaker won. That was many years before NY started selling PB, but I was only a couple of miles from CT so I went there to get a ticket. IIRC I made a point of driving a few miles further into CT because I figured there might be a bunch of New Yorkers at the first couple of places. I definitely don't understand why so many Nevadans don't drive a few minutes farther into CA to avoid the long lines immediately across the border.
