I'm not sure about a group play. I would think everyone should just get their own tickets. After paying taxes on a possible $100,000 hit and splitting it 4, 5, 6 or 8 ways ... what's left to get 'excited' about?
It seems to me that 'your just playing for fun money' and nothing serious. Let everyone 'go for it' with their own ticket ... if they can't swing the money, then maybe they shouldn't be playing the lottery, except for a little fun.
Sort of like going to a casino ... some people play to win and some just play a few penny machines.
I look at it like this ... not interested in any 'group play' ... most people will never hit a substantial lottery jackpot in their life and if they do get lucky with a decent hit, there's a very good chance that will be the only lottery jackpot they may ever hit. Why share a $100,000 jackpot with eight people when you don't have too?
You are correct ... if you have four tickets with the same numbers ... you win $400,000. In Jan 2016 a woman had 10 tickets and won a million dollars the 'easy way' ... with those odds of 324,632 to 1.
Of course, I joke a little saying the 'easy way' ... nothing is easy with the lottery, although some people do make it look 'easy' with 3, 4 or 6 lottery wins over several years or months.
"ABINGTON - While the $800 million Powerball jackpot has captured headlines and drawn the attention of residents around the state, a Whitman woman recently struck it big on Mass Cash, winning $1 million.
After purchasing multiple tickets at Central Avenue Sunoco in Abington on Jan. 3, Roberta Ibbitson hit the $100,000 jackpot 10 times, making her a millionaire, before taxes.
Ibbitson beat the 1-in-324,632 odds when she picked the daily game’s winning numbers for the drawing - 03-08-15-23-33. Her and her husband, Randall Ibbitson, picked up their prize the following day on Jan. 4."
There are many people hitting with 3, 4 and 5 tickets at times ... a few examples:

... Just let everyone get their own ticket and 'may the best person' win !!!
Of course. if your 'out of state' then the season ticket plan only works for people who like to play the same numbers for a period of time ... not for someone who has to change numbers everyday.
