....so why don't you feel that bribery is a crime? You are admitting that stealing is a crime, yes? So let's say you really have insider information on lottery tickets and only provide that info to people who reward you. As you say, this is not something you do out of the goodness of your heart, but for money. So, IMHO you are also guilty of stealing, like the person who robs the store of a candy bar - only you are justifying your action by calling it something else. What I mean is that an honest person who decides to spend her hard earned money for a chance at a win is being cheated by not being one of your "regulars."
"Others, get exactly what they ask for... "
Please explain this to me. Sounds like a threat. I walk into your store. I want to purchase a ticket with the few dollars I have left after buying groceries for a chance at my dream. But the clerk behind the counter thinks "she's never given me a tip, so screw her." Do you make sure those people get the losers?
LOL.. Ok.. let me see if I can explain what I meant by the statements.. Apparently it was misunderstood.. completely..
First.. There is no bribery...or crime with suggesting tickets to those who ask..
Second... I dont have inside information on the lottery tickets.. LOL.. If I did, why would I sell the winners.. ????????
Third... The tippers, regulars, and what-knock... are not someone just off the streets.. They have become friends with everyone .. We are not just a convenient store.. We are a lottery store... People come in and spend hours there playing.. tickets and machines we have set up .. So after a while you become on first name basis... and they are good to us as we are to them...
I disagree with you saying I am guilty as someone who steals.. I don't steal.. I sell lottery tickets.. If one of the regulars ask which roll I would buy from.. I suggest.. If they don't ask, I don't suggest. I can suggest a losing roll as well as a winning roll. My suggestions are only hunches.. Nothing guarantee.
As for someone being cheated because they are not a regular customer.. That is ludicrous. Someone walks off the street, never meeting me before doesn't ask me what I would buy. They ask for their favorite tickets or numbers and leave. So I commit a crime because I don't tell them that the *Lucky 7's* just had a $77 winner and I dont think it would hit.. What I think isn't a crime...(This is getting what you ask for.) I cannot blame the girls when I go in and pick my numbers and they aren't what falls.. or buy a $5 scratch off and it is a loser.. They give me what I ask for.. and regardless of the results that is what I get for the price.
There is no way I would know what I am selling is winners are losers ... So how could I see that an non-regular gets a loser. If they ask for a Jumbo Buck... They get a Jumbo Buck.. If they lose, it isn't my fault.. If they win, it isn't because anything I did.. It is luck.. PURE LUCK..Anyone thinking otherwise, shouldn't be gambling..
What makes you think you know what a clerk is thinking?

Well, I'll let this one go. However, your last post must have been written when you were on a parallel planet since you've been repeatedly writing that you "steer" people to the tickets that are about to hit. Now your alter ego from Bizarro World writes that you have no idea what tickets will win or lose.

I have listened to clerks tell me that this ticket or that ticket is do to hit and they have always gotten me to buy losing scratch-its
Does that tell you something about tipping???
We have some players who never tip. We don't lead them to the tickets that are due to hit if they ask.. We just let them pick their own. If they pick the roll.. They win.. If they don't.. well they get what they ask for.. No harm done..
I wouldn't tell them to play a one roll or the other.. That would be wrong. However, I wouldn't tell them where I think a winner is , when I know that a regular may come in behind them.. That would be stupid on my part.
As far as clerks scratching once a roll is ripe.. I think that is wrong too.. Especially if the store is full of scratchers.
If we are slow and no one goes for the roll at closing, we buy them ourselves..
You forgot these nuggets too.
She is already telling him/her that this happens to them because they don't tip and then she says that like she is condoning what they did.
She also said this...
"I wouldn't tell them to play a one roll or the other.. That would be wrong. However, I wouldn't tell them where I think a winner is , when I know that a regular may come in behind them.. That would be stupid on my part."
So, do you think for a minute if someone she knows (a tipper) is standing behind the person at the counter she wouldn't try to send him/her (non-tipper) in the wrong direction.
Yeah, I believe that too. LOL
Tntea, What you are doing is simply wrong. You are basically scalping tickets. As long as you get your cut all is right with the world and if you think for a moment the lottery commission wouldn't frown on that then you would be sadly mistaken...
You are expecting a tip because you point your finger and go "Play that one". Oh, you won, now pay me!

I think that's why this conversation has taken its current direction. Scratch-off ticket lottery players are wondering what this means and have questions about this. Perhaps the original statement was to intend that a clerk could steer a player to a "hot roll". Nothing wrong with that.
The question that comes into play is the original statement that "Tippers win more than non-tippers".
Why?
That is the crux of the argument.

Thank God..Someone with intelligence...
Scratchers..
What this means: The clerk is seeing what is bought and what has been scratched in store. They may know if a roll hasn't been hit for like 7-10 tickets..
Gambling is an art... You play against the trend.. Example... Some people will not play a roll that hasn't had a winner in 10 tickets.. They consider the Roll cold.. Another person will play it because they think it is due to hit..
Same thing goes on with the pick 3.. Some play a digit that has been out for some time because they think it is due to hit.. others play what is hot..
It is a matter of what you think.... and there is nothing illegal about that..

I sure hope we are snooped upon by the lottery commission.. I am sure they are really getting a huge laugh from this post..
People asking some of the most ridiculous questions...
It is completely ludicrous to say the least..
What is the lesson? Be nice to your clerks...
Expect to get what you ask for...
If you ask for a Lucky 7... then that is what you will get.. Why would they give you something else?
If you want to know what is hitting.. Ask.. ?
Here is the thing about what you are saying. When you go into a store that sells lottery just like in the game of baseball the pitcher is trying to get you out. But if you are coaching the players into playing one ticket over another you are throwing the game. IE Kenny Rogers and his "Dirt" which we all know was pine tar on his hand. At the point of sell like it or not you are giving your tippers an unfair advantage over the rest of the lottery players and why? Well because it benefits you. Bottom line is you are looking out for you and you are throw a wrench in the game. It is plain to see and you can candy coat or excuse it all you want but pine tar is not "Dirt". I think if I was working a clerks job I would probably do the same thing because you are probably not making that much. But it still does not avoid the truth and that is you are cheating in my opinion.-weshar75

I have been reading this thread from the begining and it is interesting to hear everyones views. I also know that I buy a lot of scratchers I have won a lot and lost a lot.I also know from helping out at my friends store that no one knows what is on a roll of scratchers. However , I also would tell people if someone was going to buy a ticket if it had just had a big winner and leave it up to them to change their selection or stay with it.I also know that if there is a roll and it hasn't even paid out a tickect in the last 15 or 20 the odds might be better on that one than say a roll that just had a 100.00 winner. Did I know this for a fact, no, just trying to tell them some facts to help them win a little. I also know the lottery rep who came to the store heard me tell customers little tidbits and he never had a problem with it. I have one store where I play now more than others and the couple that own it are great she will do the same thing for me and other customers.I know that any sort of ticket purchase is a gamble and sometimes I listen to her and sometimes I purchase any way. My reason for doing this was hoping maybe someone would win. I never tried to save them for myself, because everyone needs a turn, maybe this person really needed to win that day , and I know that my turn comes when I need it to.I think there is nothing wrong with trying to help someone win. I also think it is very cool when they do and you see how excited they get and just tell you thanks. I never got a tip from anyone as far as money went, but seeing them be happy was enough. I stated in another thread, I think ,that I tip on a ticket that I win 500.00 or more on, just because it is a great feeling to get an unexpected gift. I don't do this because They helped me win, just sharing the joy I guess.

I fully understand everything you have said, and then re-said, and then said differently. If I didn't understand, I would be the only one with a problem with what you are doing. I am not...

But isn't that suppose to be your skill, to make people understand that have a difficult time with comprehension? Then again, are you really the teacher, or just part of the class?
