Tennessee Lottery launches Daily Tennessee Jackpot draw game
I'm guessing most of the sales (after the lottery's 50% cut) is allocated to the jackpot, so they can't support a better 2nd place prize without cutting into the other prize levels. I couldn't find the docs on the lottery's website to confirm it though. Just from looking at the past results and doing some crude math, if they eliminated the lowest $1 prize, they could probably support a $500 2nd prize. But from the lottery's point of view that $1 prize is very important because most winners w

Minnesota Lottery confirms technical communications error delayed $2 billion Powerball drawing
Thanks for the info Todd. It's been 13 years since I last worked in a datacenter and I'm sure things have changed dramatically. Most the network gear installed on the raised floor in my old datacenter was Cisco Systems equipment. I can recall IBM's Network Architects saying things like We can always use more routers and switches, but that Cisco Sales Rep needs to sharpen his pencil for that to happen. At that time I think Cisco was in a position to price their machines however they wanted.

Minnesota Lottery confirms technical communications error delayed $2 billion Powerball drawing
As a result, the Lottery decided to start over processing the entire day's sales data at around 2:15 am. The process took about five and a half hours They sold its last Powerball ticket at 9:00 pm and had an hour to balance the data but someone made the call to start over and that took five and a half hours. My question is how was the drawing effected by one state not balancing their data in time? But it could be worse had someone in Minnesota won after the delay. And the conspirac

One lottery ticket sold in California wins $2 billion Powerball jackpot
one unnamed state's inability to deal with the huge amount of ticket sales data. Let me guess which state that was. It probability begins with a C and ends with a A. I wonder if they got Stanley Kubrick to do the 'Live' drawing today?

Florida Fantasy-5 Players
I've got a possible explanation as to why JPT lower tier payouts vary. It might have something to do with how much money they take in for each drawing. If that's true, then a low lower tier payout would indicate ticket sales were low, and that's another reason why nobody won the jackpot. In order for there to be a 60% chance of someone winning the jackpot, then they have to sell 60% of the 9 million possible six digit combinations. That also means there is a 40% chance there wont be a jackpo

$1.2 BILLION: Powerball jackpot grows to 4th-largest in history
I believe it was 1.21bn. so not much of an increase. It's a perfect storm to have a record annuity jackpot. If it rolls, it will be a record. Don't think 2bn, but at least 1.7. and it's a Saturday draw which is their highest sales day. Interesting nevertheless.

Mississippi Lottery's new Cash Pop game launching this month
Glanced at a few, not all states where this IGT founded game is played. RNG of course. Kentucky beats them all since we start sales every four minutes from 0506-0158 hours/seven days a week. Personally may play once a year.

$825 MILLION: Powerball jackpot raised due to surging ticket sales
I don't know of a specific instance, but because some of the really big jackpots got bumped several times between the initial jackpot announcement and the drawing I'd think it has happened. Whether it will get bumped up on a Saturday if the bump is only 10 or 15 million may be a different question than a bump to 850 or more. Let's hope it set a record....with 52 rolls If 40 is the current record a new record is reasonably possible. I suspect that at some point people will have spent eno

Wit and Wisdom of old lottery players...
Good find! I don't remember seeing a lot of reading material at the garage sales and flea markets here. The stuff you do see is generally religious. Nothing wrong with that either. I'd guess people here who has a lot of religious reading isn't big on having a lot of gambling material, unless it is Bingo or cow patty Bingo. Forgot last night was Thursday until about 11Pm. Updating my 4/35 files. G

Mega Millions and Powerball lottery jackpots both top $300 million
Based on the last MM roll that went to 1.28 billion this one will be around 1.3 billion on 10/28 if it doesn't get hit first. If either one of them rolls until the drawing before thanksgiving it will break 3 billion unless players run out of money buying tickets when it's in the 1 to 2 billion range. FWIW, thanks to the higher interest rates on the current annuities it would take sales of about 410 million tickets (including the ones for tomorrows drawing) to push MM past $1 billion without
