Because your odds of hitting the jackpot in that game will be increased incredibily. Think about it. You got a system that can eliminate over 90% of what will most likely not win the jackpot. But with PowerBall, you're STARTING with 1 : 146M. So at exactly 90% elimination, you're still left with over 14M after you run the algorithms. Now switch over to Indiana's Pick 6/48(1 : 12,271,512). I feel awful when I think about states with no real drawings. You're right, if there's nothing else available, you have to do what you have to do.
If it were my state, I would be contacting my state reps and governor to get it changed to real drawings. I would bug the you-know-what out of them.
There have been some good tries in doing that in both Delaware and Indiana -- not successful, but close calls.

The Hoosier Lottery is required by law to do many things, but the laws which govern them, whether state or federal, are viewed as mere suggestions. Reference the 06DEC05 post by Korean Redneck, in which the Hoosier Lottery tells him in an email that it's perfectly okay for his friend to send him PowerBall tickets through the mail from another state.
