Did anyone notice the awesome 3rd tier Calif Mega Millions prize?
What's up with with the one 5+0 prize(07/08/05) paying just $213,608, when all five New York's 5+0 prizes paid $250,000 each? Looks like California pari-mutuel prizes formula is dependent on more than just the number of winners. Lower prize levels are up from the time before when there was a $290,000 5+0 prize winner, maybe they're taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Obviously, the new and improved payout MegaMillions amounts don't mean squat in California.RJOh

Megamillions at 88 million
twisted,I agree with the market value influence on the annunity values. We also also both agree that California has and will have an impact on the size of the jackpot.Where we differ is on the size of the impact. I hope you are right and California has a large impact and we see a very large jackpot.I am still hoping to try out the 500 Group even though there was not a big response from my earlier proposal.Good luck,Jake

Megamillions at 88 million
The reason why the annuity jackpot estimate it not increasing as fast as before is because the current market value of government securities required to fund the annual installments is decreasing. This means it takes more cash today to fund a $10 million annuity jackpot than it did a year or two ago. But if you track the cash value of the jackpots, I think the addition of California has had a impact. But after the jackpot crosses $100 million, I think California will have an even greater impact.

Megamillions at 88 million
twisted,My estimate tried to account for California sales. The current 15 roll record is $294 million. I estimate the record will be exceeded by about $30 million giving a 15 roll estimate of $324 million. This is keeping in mind that the current jackpot progression is tracking less than the current roll records and California has been buy tickets for 5 draws.Good luck,Jake

Megamillions at 88 million
If noone wins friday night, the Jackpot will probably jump to 106 million. I think it will really start going crazy when it gets over a hundred million, at least the first few times till the people from California get used to the larger jackpots. When the California super lotto got over a hundred million it would jump over 30 million just by instate purchases.

Did anyone notice the awesome 3rd tier Calif Mega Millions prize?
With no one hitting 5/5 in California, that's how it happens. 2 tickets hitting 4/5+Mega got more money than $10K it got. I know that 6/24/05 had California only get $1 for 0/5+Mega.

Louisiana Lotto - seeing a pattern
I just looked at the recent draws of the California Super Lotto, and it seems that I was wrong (at least in California). Neighbors don't happen as often as I thought.

Mega Millions or Powerball?
I say Mega Millions, but I also hope California can surpass New York in Sales soon because New York is still playing the 6/59 Lotto format instead of playing a Lotto Plus style game. In June 2000, California started a Super Lotto Plus game. When will NY start a Lotto Plus?

Mega Millions Rolls On
I was surprised to see California paid $8 for a 3+0, Ohio paid $10: California paid $1 for 0+1, Ohio paid $2. Ohio does have a cap if there are more winners than expected at any prize level, so if there are 70+ second prize winners (5+0)as in PowerBall several weeks ago, they will not pay $250,000 to each winner(each State will pay according to their local sales). I'll be surprised if PowerBall doesn't have a similar rule when they change their matrix next month since that has happen twic
