South Carolina's billion dollar mega millions ticket
In the previous billion dollar jackpot that was split three ways, the couple from California who won didn't claim their third until about six months later, and as a result the media had much less interest in them than the people who claimed earlier. Maybe the SC winner(s) are waiting for a really big story to hit the news cycle so their story will be buried.

Both Powerball and Mega Millions are over $300,000,000
Guru101 You are definitely a dreamer like many of us here at LP. Your question is appropriate. What if? The media would have a field day. This news would travel around the world.

Why did they change the Powerball?
I remember lines here in Idaho too, wander. The media used to go interview people in line for the evening news story. I haven't seen a line in at least a decade, and I'm not sure why. Maybe I'll go out tomorrow and see if I can find a line between 5:30 and 6 as people are going home from work.

If you win the jackpot, do you go to tv and news?
You don't 'advertise' it, but trust me: the media will find you and knock on your door, or stake you out at the end of your driveway hoping to get a quick interview. This I know for fact. But if you have a simple news conference and get it over with, they are much less inclined to intrude upon you later.

2 most recent Powerball winners
Na this is big news now the cat is out of the bag by telling people he won put the media all over this. And the mere fact it was the largest powerball pot since Ol Jack won made whomever won a media scape goat.

Powerball Advertising
A good rule of thumb is that the media never does anything because it's in the public interest. If it didn't serve the media's interest you probably wouldn't be seeing it. How often have you seen a news brief that reads something along the lines of Important medical news that could save your life. Details at 11. They hear that a plane might have crashed and they have to interrupt a show to beat the other networks, but news that could save your life has to wait until the regular broadcast. C

$340,000,000 winner in OREGON
I agree delS...hopefully the winner can stay low and enjoy their winnings. I got so sick of tired of seeing Jack-I really think he wanted to see how long he can stay in the spotlight. When the national news heavily covered the granddaughter's death and other problems the family had (didn't he get robbed before or something?), that came to show how much they stuck around after winning Powerball. If I was right, I think the news had stories about them in my area (maybe since KY borders WV) everyda

Mega Millions: How long to recieve jackpot?
I'm sure it takes at least 2 weeks for the money to be fully deposited in the bank of your choice. However I remember reading that when Jack Whittaker claimed his jackpot he got something like $10million upfront. Anyways I think the news conference timing is up to you, but with the size of this jackpot it's inevitable so might as well get it over with. As far as verifying the ticket do so at the lottery HQ. Also it might be a good idea to make a photocopy of the winner(to brag with at lottop

MM Winner Press Coverage
Truthfully, had I had all six matching numbers, I too would have come forward immediately...like Thursday. The news reporters would have found you eventually anyway if you decided to stay in the area. I would have come forward immediately for several reasons: 1) my wife doesn't like me playing the lottery, so in coming forward immediately, my media appearance would have been quick and brief and would have enabled me to do damage control better...like Friday, I would have taken my wife out to

MI WinFall ticket claimed hours before...
I thought for sure this was going to go unclaimed. What a story read below:LANSING, January 9, 2006 With just a few hours to spare, a Detroit man and his wife claimed a $1.5 million Winfall prize that was set to expire at the close of business today. The winners, both hospital workers, redeemed the ticket that had been purchased at Meijer s in Roseville on January 8, 2005. They chose the one-time cash payment and after 25 percent federal and 3.9 percent state taxes, walked away with a check f
