Arkansas lottery to sell Mega Millions tickets
The Arkansas Lottery Commission agreed Tuesday to sell Mega Millions tickets next year, making multi-state jackpots available to lottery participants four nights a week instead of two. The panel unanimously voted to begin selling tickets for Mega Millions by Jan. 31. The state already sells tickets for the multistate Powerball game. Arkansas Lottery Director Ernie Passailaigue said he didn't know how much additional money the state would get from the Mega Millions game. Arkansas has sold $

N.M. Lottery's Roadrunner Cash game changing this weekend
The New Mexico Lottery is changing the in-state Roadrunner Cash game to create a larger starting prize and jackpots that grow larger, faster. The game will feature a starting jackpot of $25,000, up from $20,000, and a new $1 prize for matching two of five numbers. The changes will take effect this weekend, starting with the Oct. 5th drawing. To offer the enhancements, more numbers will be added to the game's number pool. Players will pick five numbers from 1 to 37, up from the current m

Quick decision: New Ark. Lottery chief recommends Powerball
I don't think they will change the matrix because of Arkansas joining. It would take a state of higher population levels than that -- such as when Florida joined (the impetus of the last matrix change). What will be interesting to watch is if MUSL allows Mega Millions states to join the game. What will they do then? Let's say New York joins Powerball, as their legislature wants to do (if it ever gets back into session). With one of the largest state populations in the nation, it could increas

Powerball lottery to have larger jackpot, but harder to win
I could be wrong (it happened once before), but it seems to me that these matrix changes could be brought about by too many people winning major prizes too often. If that's the case, then it's just barely possible that some of those systems out there actually work the way they're supposed to. Regardless of their reasons, I'd like to read the agreement the MUSL signed with Florida to see what types of incentives were offered to change the location of the drawings. My guess is that the MUSL w

Powerball lottery to have larger jackpot, but harder to win
The Powerball lottery game will be going through some changes beginning in January, including having a larger starting jackpot that is more difficult to win. Starting on Jan. 4, Florida will join the 30 United States lotteries that now offer Powerball, adding a population of 18.8 million to those who have the chance to play the game. The starting jackpot will jump from $15 million to $20 million, the world's largest starting jackpot for a lotto-style game. In addition, the average jackpot

Winning Hot Lotto ticket sold in New Mexico
New Mexico Lottery officials say one of two winning tickets for Saturday's Hot Lotto drawing was sold in New Mexico. The other ticket was sold in Minnesota. The winners will split a $1.9 million jackpot. The New Mexico winning ticket is the first Hot Lotto jackpot winner for the state since the game first went on sale there in November, 2006. The New Mexico Lottery also offers Hot Lotto's better-known sibling, Powerball. Hot Lotto is played in nine other states. It's been dubbed th

A look back at the North Carolina lottery in 2005
After a more than 20-year battle, lawmakers needed a tie-breaker to finally pass their lottery bill. When they got it, opponents quickly cried out. I think we have one senator at home recently being hospitalized in bed we have another one who is on his honeymoon because he postponed it, said N.C. Sen. Andrew Brock, R-Davie.But N.C. Gov. Mike Easley, a long time lottery supporter, praised the new state game. Today I sign the North Carolina Education Lottery Bill and today we begin building one N

Powerball to increase to three drawings a week
Multi-state jackpots are paid by all the states collectively. A percentage of every ticket sold goes toward the jackpot in each state. When someone wins the jackpot, all the states send their share to the state lottery that sold the ticket, and that state then pays out the winner once it's all collected. (That's why it can take a couple of weeks to get the check.) On the other hand, all non-jackpot prizes are paid 100% by the state that sold the winning ticket. So if someone from South Dakota

Bahamas 'web shop' accused of failing to pay winners
Turns out I should have done my research before I posted, as most of my questions were already answered. However, I did find this little tidbit under Game Rules on the IA website: The drawing will be held in accordance with the schedule posted to the Lottery's website (www.ialottery.com). The drawings will be held at the Multi-State Lottery (MUSL) location in Urbandale, Iowa under the supervision of a Drawing officer, an independent auditor and lottery security. All drawings are video reco

MUSL seeks to dismiss lawsuit over rigged jackpot
That money was returned to the 16 states that participate in Hot Lotto when associates of Tipton tried, but ultimately failed, to claim the prize a year later. Hot Lotto is a multi-state game based in Iowa. There was no actual proof the game was rigged and a jury found it was beyond reasonable doubt , but their verdict could be reversed in the court of appeals. The Iowa Hot Lotto players have the same complaints as all the players in the other 15 states and because of the time between when
