Why don't we have a federal national lottery in the US?
States without Powerball or Mega millions:
Alabama: 1.51% of the US population
Utah: 0.93% of the US population
Mississippi: 0.93% of the population
Nevada: 0.90% of the population
Hawaii: 0.45% of the population
Alaska: 0.23% of the population

You could make the case that a national lottery would be big enough to come anywhere close if a 1.5 Billion jackpot was created using only a handful of small states but in the real world, the impact of addin

New Mega Million math 75 + 15 = 6
I seriously do not think this will ever happen and here is why:
Hawaii - time difference would mean the usual evening rush to purchase tickets would never happen. Plus when people visit Hawaii, the last thing most visitors would do is purchase a lottery ticket.
Alaska - there exist other options to potentially get rich in Alaska, namely gold prospecting and crabbing. Also, certain Alaskans already receive a stipend from the government.
Nevada - casino moguls will continue to lobby again

7 States I Would Not Live In
joker,
Some of thiose are hilarious, especially Missippi!
This is a wee bit more accurate:
Alabam: Bible belt , although they'll probably reach a point where they realize how many 'Bama dollars are going across the border to other states, Miississippi casinos, Tennessee Georgia lotteries, etc....
Alaska: Not sure here, remember the thread about the ex-con in alaska who won a jackpot? Was that in an Alaska lottery?
Hawaii: Those who run the gambling that there is (AHEM!) don't

Lottery Joke :D
In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Col. Jackson down the mighty Mississip
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans...
Well they ran thru the briars and they ran thru the brambles
And they ran thru the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Predictions: Lp
NOT number predictions, predictions about now til the end of the year, or perhaps the second half of this year til June 30 '08.
(Just have a few hunches).
I think someone here is going to hit a jackpot, not sure a state Pick 6 or Powerball or Mega, or the UK or Australia, but someone on LP hits.
They'll disappear for awhile, or maybe just lurk (and be very entertained while they do) and then comeback (same username or maybe different) and tell a very intersting story about how they didn

Sam, the Rhode Island Red rooster
Me and Sam, keep an eye out for each other. Every time I get a chance, I'll chase him around the hen house, just to fluff his feathers a bit. Its all fair, cause he's manage to sneak up a couple times and scare the crap out of me.
Now Sam, doesn't know a thing about the lottery, I've tried to explain it but he just doesn't have much interest in it. Now the thing he does like is corn. I expect he knows more about corn, than most would give him credit. Me being a little smarter than Sam,
