Imposing lotto religion...
Well, it's not just the Mississippi River, although at first the casinos thought that's the way it was going to be. Actually it was called The Indian Gaming Act of 1987 that opened all this up. The first river boat casino was in Bettendorf, Iowa, and was soon moved down to Mississippi. If I remember right it became the Isle of Capri. Tunica, unbelievably now, started out with one rinky dink joint called Splash. No longer exsits, and some of the staff robbed it blind by the way. Now

the future of mega millions and powerball
Why should Powerball go higher than Mega Millions? Mega Millions currently has a population of 60 million more than Powerball (52 million after North Carolina joins), and even if Powerball was somehow able to grab Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Alaska, Nevada, Mississippi, Hawaii, Utah, Wyoming, and Puerto Rico (assuming the last nine jurisdictions ever get a lottery), under today's population, Mega Millions would still outnumber Powerball by 14 million people.

states without lotteries
Utah won't have one due to the Mormon influence. Nevada doesn't need one, as it will only compete against the dollars available for casino gambling. Mississippi, Ak and AL are poor states (in percapita income) and their govts won't want that influence. WY and Alaska don't have enough population to support a lottery. THat leaves Hawaii.

states without lotteries
I'm surprised Nevada doesn't either. I would say either NV or Mississippi-they have lots of gambling boats so that could be a possibility. I think Utah is probably least likely to have one-if I am correct, a large population of UT are Mormon and gambling is against their beliefs. Maybe that is why they don't have Powerball...

powerball and mega million matrix changes
Mega Millions will never get hit regularly as long as they have the moratorium on new states. However, if Alaska, Hawaii, Alabama, Mississippi, Utah, Nevada, Arkansas, and Wyoming ever get lotteries, they'd probably let a few more states in! I'm guessing 2009 for Powerball.

Pre-tax Lump Sum Calculations for MMPB
New Orleans got lucky, thank goodness. Tough gig for Mississippi, however. Those folks have been awfully unlucky enough times, hopefully, to have been better prepared this time. I'm not much up to date on things here, but I'm surely wishing those Mississippians whatever's the best possible outcome of all this.Jack

Lotto South or In-State?
I think SC and WV join lotto south along with AL, AR, and MS. TN and NC should go in state lotto. Are you sure that Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas doesn't have lotto? If so, which states and how come?
